Always Keep Your Stomach’s pH Levels in Mind
From now on, science experiments and feminine hygiene aren’t the only things in which pH is important. Potential hydrogen, a measure of how acidic things are, affects how your body absorbs what you put in your stomach.
In general, your body absorbs medications better on a basic stomach. If you take antacids before dosing many medications, for example, you’ll typically absorb more of the medication. The same isn’t true for most of the alkaloids in kratom — if not all of its alkaloids.
Similar to how cannabis contains dozens of alkaloids, Mitragyna speciosa also contains a few dozen alkaloids. The most prevalent of these alkaloids are mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH).
According to recent research, mitragynine gets absorbed better with a lower pH. As such, the more acidic your stomach, the more mitragynine your body will absorb. Although we don’t yet know for sure, this is also likely true for most or all of the other alkaloids that are in kratom.
Whether you adjust your stomach’s pH before or when you dose kratom, try drinking any acidic drink alongside your kratom.

Many kratom fans use chocolate milk or orange juice to neutralize kratom’s terribly sour taste. These drinks double as having strong acidic profiles, which can help you potentiate your kratom.
Don’t Use Powder to Brew Tea
Based on interest from the internet’s best and brightest kratom forums, tea isn’t the most popular method kratom consumption. Kratom tea, sometimes called kratom tisane, is brewed much like any other type of tea.
If you’ve ever brewed tea, you’ve noticed that tea bags contain crushed tea leaves rather tan ground tea powder. Powder would readily pass through tea bags and end up in the final product, resulting in a less-than-perfect glass of tea.
Why not follow the same rule of thumb when brewing kratom tea? With this in mind, avoid using kratom powder to brew tea. You may need to look around to find crushed leaf kratom. On the bright side, it’s often cheaper than powdered kratom since it requires less effort to process.
You’ll still probably end up with some powder in your final product. The same can be said for regular tea, though.
Don’t Make This All-Too-Common Measuring Mistake
Despite recommendations to the contrary across the internet, many kratom fans use spoons to measure kratom. Although spoons are fine for coffee or sugar, for example, volume will never be a good way to measure kratom.
Unlike ground coffee beans or sugar crystals, you can easily compress kratom powder. In other words, one spoonful of kratom could weigh three grams or 10 grams. Even if you make a habit of not compressing your powder, stay away from volume as a way to measure your Mitragyna speciosa.
Buy a scale — and not a kitchen scale. Use a scale that weighs out to the tenth of a gram.
